Connect Thru Climate – Climate Anxiety

Our media advocacy project is focused on climate anxiety. Climate anxiety is foreign concept for some but could explain the feelings you have been having. Before creating any media content, we distributed a survey online to see how students feel over all about climate change. Many students reported that they feel hopeless or find climate change to be depressing. With this information, we thought it would be best to create a medium where students could connect with one another about their climate anxiety. This is why we created the Instagram page @connectthruclimate, where students learn more about climate change, climate anxiety, but more importantly, can connect with one another. We also decided to conduct interviews on campus to get more personal information from fellow students about their thoughts, feelings, and actions. We felt this could translate well to students observing our Instagram or blog. On our Instagram, we have been promoting different blog posts that contain the bulk of the information. The blog includes multiple pages pertaining to mental health, climate change, and the different videos we have created. This gives students the option to read up on certain topics and learn more about the way they are feeling. On top of this, to create an even greater sense of community, we included links to fellow classmate’s project as resources for people to educate themselves and continue to be activists as we believe small steps can reduce feelings of anxiety
