Our Project Goal

Our Media Advocacy Project: https://emba9162.wixsite.com/buffs-4-water

Our Social Media Campaign, Buffs 4 Water, aims to inspire our target audience of college students to limit their water usage and think consciously about their water consumption. Providing information and stories about water conservation will hopefully inform and inspire students to actively think about the ways they and those around them use water – including CU. We want students at CU to be more mindful of how they use water. We know it is a lot to ask students to change how much water they use, but if we can inform and inspire them, we will have accomplished our goal.

We will inspire people to save water by asking about their water use and highlighting the poor uses of water and ways to improve. Having students recognize their views about water and conservation will hopefully influence them to do more research and find ways to improve. We believe that providing information about water and its potential issues, making students aware of their water use, and providing solutions will allow us to meet the goals of our conservation efforts.

Critical media studies will inform our work by showing how different types of analysis will help us understand our original data results. This information and sources will help us decide how to most effectively create our social media campaign and website.

The main target audience for this social media campaign is college students, specifically at CU Boulder. We know that Colorado is affected by water issues such as forest fires and is susceptible to drought and water scarcity. We want to make CU Boulder students more aware of this issue since it can directly impact their lives. We also know that a lot of students from CU are also from California, which experiences a lot of the same water issues Colorado does. It is important to inform college students of this issue so they can be aware of their personal water use and how water problems can affect states, communities, and people as a whole. Our goal is to make college students mindful of their water use and have them informed about possible water scarcity impacts.
